Ana Lemes: Artist & Woodworker

Why did you choose this career path?

Ana: It's always been a passion of mine. I wanted to create something incorporating recycled materials to help make a difference for our planet!

How do you source your materials? Where do you find inspiration for your work?

Ana: I'm from Brazil, and there you see people using recycled materials all the time, especially wood pallets. Discovering usable items in the trash or on the side of the road gives me such joy in being able to create something from nothing. My goal is to present something unique that people will not only enjoy, but share in the feeling that they are making a contribution as well by using recycled times. Reuse is my mantra.

With your husband being a photographer and you as a mother and creator, how does Malibu influence your lifestyle?

Ana: Living by the ocean brings me so much joy, I love that I'm able to drop my son of at school and then go for a morning surf before coming home to work on my furniture. I am so blessed and humbled to have this life style. Living in this beautiful place, surrounded by family and being able to create a sustainable movement with my work.

As a family, where do you go to escape within Malibu?

Our family loves the outdoors so on the weekends we normally surf Zuma beach in the morning, grab a bite to eat at our local market and in the afternoon neighbors join us for a skate session in our backyard.
